The dietary supplements market was valued at USD 209.5 billion in 2025. It is projected to reach USD 228.2 billion in 2026 and USD 431.7 billion by 2033, a CAGR of 9.5% from 2026 to 2033. That is roughly USD 222 billion of added revenue and a market that more than doubles in eight years. North America held the largest regional share at 36.1% in 2025. Demand rests on heightened health consciousness, changing lifestyles and a stronger focus on preventive healthcare.

Key Market Breakdown

Where revenue sits today

The dietary supplements market is still anchored in familiar products. Vitamins hold the top ingredient position with a 28.2% share, backed by steady demand for vitamin D (bone health) and vitamin B (brain health). Over-the-counter products account for 75.6% of revenue, and tablets lead formats at 31.9%. By application, energy and weight management is largest at 29.4%. Adults are the biggest end-user group at 44.6%, and offline retail still carries 62.6% of sales. Pharmacies, health stores and nutrition clinics keep that channel strong because shoppers want expert advice and assurance that a product is authentic.

Where growth is heading

The segments that lead on share are not the ones growing fastest. Protein and amino acids are forecast to grow at 11.9% from 2026 to 2033, and liquid supplements at 10.8%. Prenatal health supplements are projected at 11.1% and online sales at 11.4%. Infant supplements, with a 12.4% CAGR from 2025 to 2033, are the fastest-growing end-user group in the report. All of these sit above the 9.5% market average. Prescribed supplements, projected at 8.5%, are the main exception.

For anyone tracking this market, the pattern is that growth comes from convenience formats, life-stage needs and digital buying rather than from the traditional multivitamin tablet bought in a store.

Consumer behavior supports this. Ashwagandha use rose from 2% of consumers in 2020 to 8% in 2024, and melatonin adoption among supplement users climbed from 10% to 16% over the same period. Personalized nutrition built on biomarker data, genetic testing and AI is pushing brands toward subscriptions and higher price points. Older consumers add a structural floor to demand: the geriatric group contributes roughly 30% of worldwide sales. The WHO estimates that over 2 billion people live with micronutrient deficiencies, which sustains the preventive-health case.

Regional Overview

North America sets the baseline

North America’s 36.1% share reflects high disposable income, lifestyle-related health concerns and a mature functional-food culture. The U.S. alone represents 32.8% of global revenue and is projected to grow at 8.3% from 2026 to 2033. The report puts the U.S. at 91.4% of regional revenue, with Canada’s CAGR at 7.6%. In the U.S., about 75% to 77% of adults use supplements, and 70% to 74% of older adults take them regularly, mainly for joint, heart and bone health.

Asia Pacific supplies the momentum

Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region, projected at a 9.4% CAGR from 2026 to 2033. China holds 13.6% of global revenue and is growing at 10.5%. Japan holds 7.0% with an 11.5% CAGR, supported by a fast-aging population and a growing number of fitness clubs. India holds a 2.8% share but shows the steepest growth among the ten largest markets at 13.2%. Urbanization, rising incomes and lifestyle conditions such as overweight and high blood pressure drive its demand. The ICMR also reports that more than 60% of Indians do not meet daily nutritional requirements.

Europe and emerging regions

Europe is projected to grow at 7.6%, the slowest of the five regions. Italy (4.3%) and Germany (4.1%) are its largest country markets, followed by France (2.7%) and the UK (2.5%). Central and South America is forecast at 8.4%, led by Brazil’s 2.4% global share. Middle East and Africa is projected at 9.0%, helped by a young, working population and rising disposable incomes. Canada holds 2.1% globally.

Taken together, the ten largest country markets account for about 74.3% of global revenue. That concentration means a handful of regulatory and consumer shifts can move the whole dietary supplements market.

Major Industry Players

The competitive field mixes pharmaceutical groups, direct-selling networks, ingredient suppliers and specialist supplement brands. The report profiles seventeen companies: Amway Corp., Abbott, Bayer AG, Glanbia plc, Pfizer Inc., Archer Daniels Midland, NU SKIN, GlaxoSmithKline plc., Herbalife Nutrition Ltd., Nature’s Sunshine Products, Inc., XanGo, LLC, RBK Nutraceuticals Pty Ltd, American Health, International Flavors & Fragrances Inc., Good Health New Zealand, Nature’s Bounty and NOW Foods.
