Electronic Design Automation Software Market Deep Dive: Why On-Premise Still Holds Over 50% Share
The Electronic Design Automation Software Market was valued at USD 17.8 billion in 2025. It is estimated at USD 19.5 billion in 2026 and projected to reach USD 37.7 billion by 2033, a CAGR of 9.9% from 2026 to 2033. North America led with a 44.5% revenue share in 2025, while Asia Pacific is expected to grow fastest.
- Market size and growth: USD 17.8B (2025) → USD 19.5B (2026) → USD 37.7B (2033), at a 9.9% CAGR
- Structure and players: Synopsys, Siemens EDA, Cadence, Keysight, Zuken and Aldec, with AI and acquisitions shaping competition
- Segments and regions: CAE, on-premise, consumer electronics and microprocessors lead, while services, cloud, healthcare and Asia Pacific grow fastest
Market Size & Growth Projections
The Electronic Design Automation Software Market is on track to roughly double in seven years. From 2026 to 2033 it adds about USD 18.2 billion, and the 2033 forecast is nearly 1.9 times the 2026 estimate. The step from USD 17.8 billion in 2025 to USD 19.5 billion in 2026 is about 9.6%, close to the forecast CAGR. That suggests steady, compounding demand rather than growth concentrated in the final years.
The core demand driver is practical. EDA software cuts the cost and time of electronic circuit design and removes manual errors. On top of that, AI and machine learning are being built into design tools to handle complex design problems and reduce costs. Grand View Research’s analyst view adds automotive electronics, 5G and high-performance computing as accelerators, with companies investing in AI-powered design expected to gain a competitive edge.
Policy and industry shifts widen the base. Governments in India, China, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia and France are backing electronics digitization. India’s funding of about USD 122 million for chip design startups in November 2022 is one example. Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing and IoT-connected devices create further demand for advanced electronic components, which in turn need design software.

Key Market Structure & Dominant Players
The EDA software market is shaped less by price competition than by who can embed AI deepest into the design flow. Grand View Research names Siemens EDA, Keysight Technologies, Synopsys, Zuken, Vennsa Technologies and Aldec among the key players. Its profiled companies also include Cadence Design Systems, ANSYS, Altium, Autodesk, The MathWorks, Silvaco, Altair Engineering (Siemens), Microchip’s Microsemi, eInfochips and AMD. Their usual growth tactics are partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and new product launches.
The recent deal flow shows where the competition is heading. Synopsys completed its acquisition of Ansys in July 2025 to combine chip design with multiphysics simulation. Then three NVIDIA alliances followed within five months:
- December 2025: NVIDIA and Synopsys
- January 2026: Siemens Digital Industries Software and NVIDIA
- April 2026: Cadence and NVIDIA
Each pairs EDA workflows with GPU-accelerated computing, AI and digital twin technology. When the leading vendors all align with the same compute partner, the differentiator moves from standalone tools to AI-accelerated, system-level design platforms.
Smaller vendors compete on access and flexibility. Zuken’s September 2022 subscription model for eCADSTAR brought PCB design to small and medium businesses. Cadence’s June 2023 collaboration with Samsung Foundry targeted AI and multi-die and 3D-IC design. The pattern is that scale players win through ecosystem depth, while specialists win through licensing flexibility and foundry-level collaboration.

Market Breakdown by Segment & Region
A useful way to read the segmentation is that the largest segments are the established base, while the fastest-growing ones are the next wave.
Product. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) held over 30.0% share in 2025, supported by outsourced manufacturing, the need to avoid repeated prototypes and recalls, and the move toward cloud computing. Services, which cover methodology development, enterprise integration, large-scale deployment, design flow optimization and technical support, are expected to post the highest CAGR. Rising design complexity is making expertise as valuable as the software itself.
Deployment. On-premise holds over 50.0% share in 2025 because it gives organizations tighter control over sensitive design data. Cloud, however, is projected to grow at about 11.0% CAGR, ahead of the 9.9% market average. At that pace the on-premise share should gradually erode. Cloud lets chip companies run unlimited parallel and regression jobs on demand, with results in minutes.
Application. Consumer electronics accounts for over 40.0% of the market, driven by smart devices, AI applications and the need to optimize chip performance, power and area. Healthcare is projected to grow fastest, as implantable devices, wearables, diagnostic equipment and connected care systems demand power-efficient, reliable and miniaturized chips.
End use. Microprocessors and controllers hold over 70.5% share, reflecting how complex it is to design, manufacture and test these circuits. The memory management unit segment is expected to grow fastest, driven by demand for higher storage capacity and more memory-hungry software.
Region. North America’s 44.5% share rests on early adoption of 5G, AI and high-performance computing, plus the presence of leading semiconductor and EDA companies. Asia Pacific is projected to grow fastest, supported by more electronics manufacturers, cloud adoption, smartphone penetration, wearables and rising semiconductor investment. Because 5G and AI chips are driving SoC complexity, semiconductor firms increasingly rely on scalable cloud-based tools.
