Costume, Rental and Borrowed Garments: Whose Problem Is the Stain?
Formal season creates a specific headache. A rented tux, a borrowed dress, a costume that has to go back Monday, and something spilled on it Saturday night.
First rule: don't treat it yourself. Water on silk leaves rings. Club soda is a myth that has ruined a lot of garments. Rubbing spreads the stain and can permanently damage the nap on velvet and suede. Blot, don't rub, and leave it there.
Second, note what caused it. Red wine, oil, makeup, and grass all need different treatments, and telling the cleaner is more useful than letting them guess from appearance.
Third, check the rental agreement before doing anything. Many houses specify their own cleaner and void the arrangement if a garment goes elsewhere.
On timing, people usually go looking for same day dry cleaning in Normandy at exactly this moment. It's rarely available, and a three-day standard is normal, so a Monday return on a Saturday spill is tight regardless of who handles it.
Booking dry cleaning pickup and delivery in Normandy at least saves the trip, though most services carry a minimum order worth checking first.
