The global Gallium Nitride Semiconductor Device Market is estimated at US$4.8 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach US$68.0 billion by 2036, expanding at a 30.3% CAGR, according to Fact.MR. The market was valued at approximately US$3.7 billion in 2025 and is expected to create an absolute dollar opportunity of US$63.2 billion from 2026 to 2036.

The market is expanding as electric vehicles, data centers, 5G networks, consumer chargers, and defense systems adopt gallium nitride devices. The reason is specific: GaN enables higher switching frequencies, lower conduction losses, and greater power density than conventional silicon devices.

Gallium Nitride Semiconductor Device Market Gains From 8-Inch Wafers

Gallium nitride semiconductor devices use wide-bandgap GaN material for power and RF applications. Products are fabricated on silicon, silicon carbide, and sapphire substrates across wafer formats ranging from 4 inches to 8 inches.

Fact.MR is a market research company that analyzes global industries through proprietary forecasting models, primary research, and secondary-source validation.

Power semiconductors account for 46% of product share in 2026, making the category the leading product segment. Information and communication technology represents 44% of end-use share, while 6-inch-and-above wafers account for 58% of wafer-size share.

The immediate question for manufacturers is why GaN demand is accelerating now. EV onboard chargers require greater power density in smaller packages. Data centers are upgrading power supplies to reduce conversion losses. Consumer electronics brands are adopting GaN power ICs for compact 65W to 240W fast chargers.

That combination is widening the addressable market.

8-Inch GaN-on-Silicon Changes Device Economics

The transition from 4-inch and 6-inch production toward 8-inch GaN-on-silicon wafer manufacturing is a key development identified by Fact.MR. Larger wafer formats can improve manufacturing economics and support greater cost competitiveness against silicon alternatives.

GaN-on-silicon is gaining preference in high-volume power semiconductor applications because it combines GaN performance with silicon manufacturing infrastructure. GaN-on-SiC remains relevant for high-power RF applications where thermal conductivity is critical.

The market still faces cost and qualification barriers. GaN devices carry higher per-device costs than mature silicon products in some applications. Automotive and data-center deployments also require lengthy reliability qualification cycles. A limited number of qualified GaN foundry partners creates additional supply concentration risk.

Shambhu Nath Jha, Principal Consultant at Fact.MR, said, “The gallium nitride semiconductor device market is at an inflection point where multiple high-volume applications are scaling simultaneously. EV onboard chargers, data center power, consumer fast chargers, and 5G RF amplifiers are all pulling GaN adoption forward.”

Jha added, “The transition to 8-inch GaN-on-silicon wafer production is the key enabler, because it brings device costs closer to silicon incumbents while delivering measurably superior performance.”

Power Semiconductors Hold 46% Share

Power semiconductors are expected to account for 46% of the product segment in 2026. Procurement is supported by EV power conversion, data-center power systems, consumer fast chargers, and other applications requiring higher power density.

Information and communication technology represents 44% of end-use value in 2026. The segment benefits from demand for GaN RF power amplifiers in 5G base stations, phased-array antenna systems, and related communication infrastructure.

The 6-inch-and-above wafer category holds 58% of wafer-size share in 2026. Its position reflects the manufacturing scale required for high-volume device production.

A major opportunity is emerging in EV traction inverters. Fact.MR identifies traction inverter applications as a potential next high-volume frontier as voltage and frequency requirements increasingly align with GaN capabilities.

Defense and aerospace provide another opportunity. GaN RF devices are being adopted for radar, electronic warfare, and satellite communication modules.

United States and China Lead Country Growth

The United States is projected to grow at a 27.9% CAGR through 2036, followed closely by China at 27.7%. Germany is forecast at 26.9%, Japan at 26.5%, South Korea at 25.8%, and India at 25.4%.

Asia Pacific is supported by expanding semiconductor capacity and infrastructure investment. China combines large-scale manufacturing activity with rising demand across EVs, electronics, and communications.

India's market growth reflects expanding end-use activity and adoption of higher-specification semiconductor products. South Korea's demand is linked to advanced electronics and related manufacturing applications.

Competitive Landscape Shifts Toward Integrated Capabilities

Leading companies identified by Fact.MR include Infineon Technologies AG, Fujitsu Ltd., Efficient Power Conversion Corporation, Transphorm Inc., NXP Semiconductors, and Qorvo, Inc. Texas Instruments Inc., Toshiba Corporation, GaN Systems, and NTT Advanced Technology Corporation also participate across selected segments.

The competitive landscape is moderately fragmented. Product breadth, technical capability, application coverage, and foundry access influence positioning.

Recent developments include Infineon Technologies AG's product portfolio expansion in 2025Fujitsu Ltd.'s technology upgrade launch in 2026, and Efficient Power Conversion Corporation's geographic expansion into high-growth markets in Asia Pacific and Latin America in 2025.

Fact.MR identifies companies combining device-design capability with access to 8-inch manufacturing platforms as well positioned for the next phase of market development.
